Pringles Chip Challenge Results

Below are images of the results of the Pringles Chip Challenge from the STEM Forum in New Orleans in May 2014.  Participants were tasked with creating a package to successfully mail a Pringles potato chip.  The package had to fit in a legal sized envelope that was placed with up to 5 other envelopes in a large manilla envelope and mailed through the US Postal System.  Materials for construction included construction paper, typing paper, cereal box cardboard, and tape.  Some participants used plastic, which wasn’t listed as a packaging material.

Twenty-three packages arrived in Montana and were carefully opened to determine the status of the chips.  Eight chips survived the mailing unbroken.  Numerous others had minor damage and many were simply crushed pieces.
